In the Beginning, God…
Special Events:
“Getting Back to the Bible on the Age of the Earth”
May 18-20, 2023
At the 2019 Synodical Conference, the LCMS passed a resolution affirming its belief in a six natural day creation. That was a great step in
getting back to the Bible on creation. However, there is another significant question regarding creation. When did God create?
When was the beginning? The chronogenealogies of Genesis 5 and 11 give a clear Biblical basis for determining an age for the earth of 6-8000
years.
The 1932 Brief Statement says, “We reject every doctrine which denies or limits the work of creation as taught in Scripture,” yet over
the years, the LCMS has made no specific statements on the age of the earth. The church has made several statements on creation,
(Brief Statement of the Doctrinal Position of the Missouri Synod (Adopted 1932), A Statement of Scriptural and Confessional Principles (1973),
and 2019 Synod Convention Resolution 5-09A), but none of them have contained a clear statement on the age of the earth.
Compromise on the age of the earth was suggested in the Concordia Journal in the Summer 2017 edition, and never recanted
by Concordia Seminary, St. Louis.
The Denver Society of Creation is, therefore, sponsoring this conference which is intended to challenge the LCMS to
commit to an age for the earth based on the Bible.
This conference features Speakers:
Dr. Robert Carter
Dr. Robert Carter received his Bachelor of Science in Applied Biology from the
Georgia Institute of Technology in 1992, spent four years teaching high school
science, and went on to obtain his Ph.D. in Coral Reef Ecology from the University
of Miami in 2003. Rob has studied the genetics of fluorescent proteins in corals
and sea anemones and holds one patent on a particular fluorescent protein gene.
His current research involves looking for new genetic patterns in the human
genome and the development of a Biblical model of human genetic history. Rob
works as a speaker and scientist at CMI-US and is passionate about displaying the
Truthfulness of God’s word using science.
