“Who Done It? Geology as Forensic Science”

Genesis chapters 1-9 give the essential framework for earth's biological and physical history. God makes the cosmos in six days, including mankind—that is, Adam and Eve. Plants are given for food so there is no carnivory—until death enters the world with Adam's fall. Nine very long generations later, God sends a global flood that reconfigures the surface of the planet. A convincing case for the Flood is plainly seen in earth's rocks—assuming the eyewitness testimony isn't disallowed. Spoiler: Lord Peter Wimsey does exonerate the Duke of Denver from accusation of murder even though the jury never knows the Duke's whereabouts. About Dr. Helmkamp: Dr. Barbara S. Helmkamp has a Ph.D. in physics from Louisiana State  University and a B.S. Engineering in physics from Colorado School of  Mines, and she worked as a petrophysical engineer for the Shell Oil  Companies between undergraduate and graduate studies. She completed  the Lutheran Teacher Colloquy from Concordia University Texas while  teaching at St. Mark Lutheran Church & School in Houston, where she was  subsequently called. She is currently on the faculty of Veritas Scholars  Academy (V.S.A. is an online school out of Lancaster, PA). She also taught at  Credo Academy (Credo is a home school co-op in Lone Tree, CO) as well as  having overseen her daughters’ high school educations from home. Her older daughter graduated with Honors from VSA in 2015 and is currently a senior at the University of Iowa, and her younger daughter graduated Highest Honors from VSA in 2017 and is currently a sophomore at the University of Wyoming. Barbara, her husband Bob, and their daughters are members of Christ Our Savior Lutheran Church in Elizabeth, Colorado. To print a flyer, click here. To print a bulletin insert, click here.

Mrs. Judy Finnessy

President, Denver Society of Creation

“The Cost of Denying Creation:  In the Year 2525,

Will Our Children be Christian?”

Every day our young people are bombarded by the teaching of evolution.  Surveys show what a detrimental effect this has on their faith!  When the clear meaning of the creation and the fall in Genesis is undermined either by teaching evolution as fact, or by failing to teach Biblical creation, the effect is clear.  As we lose the God of the Bible as our Creator, we also lose Him as our absolute moral authority.  The result is the deterioration of our culture, morals and faith!  Join the battle to save the faith of our children! In addition to the importance of teaching creation, Judy will give you an update on the recent activities of the Denver Society of Creation and a vision of our future activities and events.  You’ll also get an update on the status of numerous resolutions passed by LCMS districts on the creation topic, and how you can support activities for the synodical convention next July. About Judy:  Judy Finnessy is a “grandma grizzly” when it comes to teaching our children how to defend their faith.  (She has three grown children, and six grandchildren.)  She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Accounting from Wartburg College.   Judy has spent over forty years holding various positions in IT Architecture and Project Management with John Deere, and now that she has retired, has devoted herself to studying creation apologetics and its impact on the faith of our children. For the past four years,  she has been intensely involved in creation apologetics,  . She has facilitated a small group study of Genesis 1-11, taught Sunday school classes on creation and been a speaker for adult Bible study classes and conferences. She is the founder and President of the Denver Society of Creation. Judy is a member of Ascension Lutheran Church in Littleton.  She is involved in Lutherans for Life, Denver, and has served as  a past Secretary.  She has a love for Christian music and serves as the music director and pianist for the Tin Cup Community Chapel during the summer months.  She has also assisted with fund raising events for  Love INC, Littleton. In addition to being certified to teach Creation Apologetics by Creation Training Initiative, Judy has also been certified  as a “Biblical Creation Ministry Professional”  by the International Association for Creation.
